Teachers and parents in the Tehachapi Unified School District held a demonstration outside the school board meeting Tuesday night.

Holding signs that read, "Not on strike yet," the teachers called for a "fair settlement" in their contract negotiation.

The Tehachapi Association of Teachers is asking for a 3.5 percent raise, their first pay bump in four years.

In their latest offer, the district acquiesced to the 3.5 percent but only if elementary school teachers added 28 minutes to their day, making it more consistent with high school teachers. TAT rejected the offer and threatened to strike if the district did not meet their demands.
