Why Fresno Is Rated Worst Place To Find Work
If you're looking for the best city to find work you might want to head to Texas.
The Lone Star State features three of the top five cities in the latest Wallet Hub study because they have a lot of new high paying jobs. They also have some of the most affordable home prices.
As for the worst. Fresno is ranked just one spot below last on this list. Fellow California cities Modesto and Stockton are also in the bottom five.
Here's why Wallet Hub ranked Fresno so low.
The cost of housing is in the bottom third in the country.
The average cost of a home is just under $190,000 according to Zillow.com which is not considered affordable in this study.
Job opportunities are very low.
This study finds that there just aren't a lot of new jobs being created and when jobs are available the average salary is very low compared to similar jobs across the country.
This combines to make Fresno the city with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. A recent study from Forbes finds over 14% of people in Fresno who are looking for work don't have a job.
All is not totally bleak and hopeless in Fresno, however. A number of organizations are dedicated to enticing and keeping young talent in town. Flyp Fresno is one organization energizing a young and vibrant work force.
