He was one of Porterville Police Department's own.
But on Thursday, Seven -- the police department's furry crime fighter -- was euthanized after battling a nerve disorder known as neuropathy.
The 11-year-old Belgian Malinois was laid to rest at the Porterville Police Department firing range.
Seven was certified as a police service dog for the Porterville Police Department in 2007
Seven was described as a "very sociable" police dog and "loved to perform for civic groups and local schools in the Porterville area," a Porterville Police Department spokesman said.
Police officer Gary Miller was Seven's handler. The two competed in numerous Police K9 competitions throughout the region, receiving numerous awards in obedience, agility, searching and protection.
Seven was responsible for apprehending nearly 400 suspects and was deployed more than 2,000 times, the police department said.
Police say Seven's searching and tracking abilities saved the department thousands of man hours.
