Plane Crashes In Northwest Fresno; Pilot Not Hurt

A pilot is lucky to walk away from a plane crash without any injuries.

Fresno fire officials say an Ultralight plane took off from Sierra Skypark in northwest Fresno Saturday morning, but it didn't get far.

Shortly after take off, officials say the plane's engine died in mid-air.

The pilot was able to steer the plane away from homes, but officials say his landing gear collapsed, and he crashed in a field near the San Joaquin River.

"It could've been very serious for individuals on the ground if it would've impacted cars or homes, it would've been very disastrous for the pilot," said battalion chief Chuck Tobias with the Fresno City Fire department.

The pilot is a flight instructor from San Jose.

      The plane wasn't badly damaged.
