Large Mariposa County Grass Fire Prompts Evacuations
A swift-moving grass fire in Mariposa County on Sunday forced more than 500 residents out of their homes.
The grass fire was first reported at around 2 p.m. near Carstens Road in the Midpines area, according to KMPH news partner the Mariposa Gazette.
A mandatory evacuation was put in place for residents in the Clarks Valley and Jerseydale areas, Cal Fire officials said.
The fire had burned more than 1,000 acres and threatened several communities by Sunday evening.
