The Valley will say goodbye to longtime former Fresno State head football coach Jim Sweeney Saturday with a public memorial service on the field that bears his name.
Sweeney spent 19 seasons as head coach of the Bulldogs, taking the program from Ratcliffe Stadium to the current venue on the Fresno State campus.
He influenced thousands of his players, who would pass that influence on to thousands more.
One of coach Sweeney's players was his youngest son Kevin, a record breaking quarterback in the 1980's.
He remembers his father for his tremendous passion with an ability to develop and challenge his athletes.
Kevin Sweeney also says he had a gift, because he was able to see the father side and the coach side.
Saturday's public memorial service will begin at 1 p.m.
