A Fresno firefighter was shot Thursday morning after responding to a call near Bullard and Polk in Northwest Fresno.
A spokesman with the Fresno Fire Department says the firefighters showed up to a home on Cleo Avenue just south of Tenaya around 4 a.m. for a medical alert call.
The firefighters rang the doorbell and knocked on the front door, but when no one answered, they decided to try and get in through a window.
That's when they say someone fired a shot from inside the home. The bullet only grazed the firefighter's leg. He was transported to the hospital as a precaution and is expected to be okay.
Investigators and say the call was for a medical emergency but was not a 911 phone call but rather from a bracelet or button that automatically triggers a medical emergency call.
The homeowner says nobody in the home triggered the medical emergency and believed an intruder was attempting to come through the window.
The Fresno Police Department is handling the investigation.
