A student from the West campus of Central High School was taken into custody by the Fresno Police on Thursday for possessing a gun on campus.
Central Unified School District sent out this automated message to tell parents about the arrest:
"This is Robert Griffith principal of Central High School. This is to inform you that a safety incident occurred on West campus today. Protocols are in place and were followed which resulted in a safe conclusion to this incident. The student was arrested and is in custody. We will continue to follow our normal finals schedule but will have increased law enforcement support on and around campus tomorrow."
Deputies say he took a 25-caliber handgun and more than 50 rounds of ammunition. The ninth grader is at Fresno County Juvenile Hall, where he could face charges including possessing a firearm on campus.
