This week's Thursday Night Showdown takes place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on CW KGRE 59.
The game is between the Hanford Bullpups and Hanford West Huskies so it's being called the Dog Bowl.
Both teams are 1-3 after their non-league schedule and are excited to start fresh with this league game.
Hanford senior QB, Jake Young, is ready to go. "It's just always big. There's always just so much hype, all week long. School - we do a bunch of things, like tomorrow is 'outshine the Huskies' and we wear sunglasses and all that kind of stuff, I mean it's a big deal," said Young.
Jack Young is the son of coach, Josh Young, who is 5-1 in the rivalry and the Bullpups lead 8-3 overall. Last year was Coach Young's one loss. "It was tough. It was something that we hadn't experienced here since I've been the head coach, and it was definitely a wake up call for everybody, and it's something that we'll never forget," said Coach Young.
Over at Hanford West, the Huskies emotions are riding high, just thinking about the big win in this game a year ago. And junior Leo Carillo says he's excited the game is on TV, because it gives folks outside Hanford a chance to realize how big this rivalry is for the community. "It's really fun, just to play with your friends from growing up - from different teams and your team, it's a big deal. It's fun," said Carillo.
The Huskies head coach, Justin Fowler said, "There's a lot of people that have watched them grow up through the youth leagues and through elementary school, junior high, and you'll see a lot of people will show up, and I think it's a celebration for the town."
Both teams look ready to play so it should be a great game. Watch at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 27th on CW KFRE 59.
