KMPH Fox 26 News has learned that an inmate at the Fresno County Jail is now at a hospital with the aggressive, H1N1 flu virus.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Department confirms the inmate is 61 years old, and had been in custody since September.
The inmate complained of flu-like symptoms two days ago, and was treated at the jail by medical staff.
But after his condition deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital.
He is now in serious condition.
The Sheriff's department reports it's possible the inmate got sick while in-custody, so the rest of the inmates on his floor are on lockdown status.
Flu shots are being immediately offered to those inmates, as well as jail staff.
As a precaution, inmates will only be making court appearances as necessary.
