Bracing For A Heatwave: Cooling Centers, Pools Open In Fresno

      With triple-digit heat forecast for the weekend, the city of Fresno will open cooling centers{} starting on Friday.

      The cooling centers are expected to be open from noon to 8 p.m. through Wednesday, city officials said.{}

      Monday could reach a scorching 111 degrees.

      The following locations will serve as cooling centers:

      -- Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo

      -- Frank H. Ball Neighborhood Center, 760 Mayor

      -- Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler

      -- Pinedale Community Center, 7170 N. San Pablo

      City officials say the FAX bus system will provide free transportation along normal routes to and from cooling center sites.{}

      Free swimming will also be available at the Airways from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; the Mosqueda from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Frank H. Ball from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Mary Ella Brown from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
