Fresno County Schools Supt. Honors Six Students

Six special needs students in the adult transition program are Fresno County Schools Superintendent Jim Yovino's super stars for October. The six volunteer at the Valley Animal Center and the Fresno SPCA. Christian Castro enjoys the challenge. "I like this job because I help them out by taking care of the stuff between the cage." The students are supervised by Dora LeBlanc from the special education department for the county office of education. "It teaches them job skills and makes them feel good about themselves. This is the best place to do it around animals."

The hard working young adults were honored last Thursday by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. The October super stars received certificates, polo shirts and handshakes from the county board of education. "It's about preparing these kids so that once they've reached the age of 22 that there's a possibility of employment for them." Since taking office in July 2013, Superintendent Yovino has recognized close to 100 super stars in Fresno County's 32 school districts.
