Thursday night, a woman was hit and killed on Highway 180 near Grantland Avenue in Fresno County around 7 o'clock.
The California Highway Patrol is not releasing the name of the woman, until her family has been notified.
But officers say it's believed she was in her 60's and was walking in and out of traffic.
Officers say the woman was hit and killed by the driver of a passing car.
Officers say the woman driving the car said she saw the woman on the highway, but it was too late to stop.
It is a very dark stretch of roadway.
The CHP is still investigating, but at this time officers say the driver of the car will not face any charges.
Eastbound highway 180 near Grantland was closed for several hours, but reopened around 9 o'clock.
