Valley Drought 2014: Water Cops On Patrol

New water restrictions are going into effect around California due to the ongoing drought.

If you live in Fresno, you'll need to make some changes to how often you water your lawn.

City officials say they've elevated the city's water shortage contingency plan to a stage two level.

Beginning August 1st in Fresno, you will only be allowed to water your lawns twice a week during the summer, and once a week during the winter.

The same rules apply to government, schools and businesses.

City officials say water-police will track you down if you're wasting water.

You're also encouraged to let City Hall know about if someone's wasting water, especially at city owned properties.

City officials do say water wasters will first be given a warning, before facing fines of up to $45 a day and your water could be shut off by the fifth citation.

Because of these tighter restrictions, you'll now have to re-adjust the days you water your lawn.

If your Fresno address ends in an odd number, you should water on Tuesdays and/or Saturdays only

Even number addresses can only water on Wednesdays and/or Sundays.

No one is allowed to water on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays in the City of Fresno.

Also, lawns can only be watered between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

If you'd like to know more about how you can conserve water, Fresno City Hall set up a water conservation hot line - (559) 621-5480.
