Testosterone Ends Melky Cabrera's Dream Season

The playoff hopes of the San Francisco Giants took a hit Wednesday when MVP candidate Melky Cabrera was slapped with a 50 game suspension for using a performance-enhancing drug.

Cabrera leads baseball with 159 hits, and is second in the National League in batting average at .346.

The 28-year-old reportedly{}tested positive for testosterone{}during the All-Star break. Ironically, Cabrera was the Most Valuable Player in the All-Star Game, helping the National League secure home field advantage for the World Series.

Cabrera issued a statement admitting he made a mistake{}while apologizing to the Giants and their fans.

Cabrera, who will be a free agent after this season, could rejoin the Giants{}after the first five games of the playoffs if they make the postseason.

San Francisco is currently one game behind the first place Dodgers in the National League West.
