Taxes - Too High, Too Confusing - So Americans Are Renouncing Citizenship
3,000 Americans renounced their citizenship, and gave up their US passports last year.
That's triple the average for the previous five years, according to government data.
When asked why, people said taxes played a part in their decision.
Unlike most countries, the US taxes citizens on all income, no matter where it is earned or where you live.
Also, filing taxes is getting more complicated. One expert says reporting taxes can be so difficult that expatriots are often forced to seek help which can add up to thousands of dollars.
