Standoff Nets Man Wanted for New Year's Shooting

Traffic is back open along Blackstone Avenue after an hour-long stand-off between police and a man wanted for murder.

Officers were tipped off that 39-year-old Jesus "Jesse" Aguilar was staying in the Summerfield Inn, along Blackstone Avenue south of Sierra Ave.

SWAT Officers swarmed the place Wednesday night around 6 p.m.

      Guests were forced to leave.

Blackstone Avenue was blocked to traffic.

People in nearby businesses ran outside to see the commotion, only to be told by police moments later to move inside.

Officers had been looking for Aguilar since January 1st.

That's when police say he shot a father and son in the area of Inyo and Barton.

Frank Zapata, Sr. died as a result of the shooting.

      Frank Zapata, Jr. survived.

Officers say the shooting was connected to gangs.

Deputy Police Chief Pat Farmer says that Aguilar has a lengthy criminal record, that includes robbery and carjacking.
