Redwood Poachers Stealing From Northern California Forests
By Justin Willis
Our iconic redwoods in northern California are in danger right now from poachers. Park rangers say thieves are cutting massive chunks from the base of the trees and selling them on the black market. The chunks are then used to make things like furniture or souvenirs. Park rangers say the redwoods are now more prone insect infestation and fire because of these poachers. Things have gotten so bad in the state's parks where redwoods grow that an 8-mile drive up in Redding has been shut down to help stop the poachers.
