Police Investigate Shooting Involving Officer In Fresno
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
Fresno Police are investigating the city's ninth officer-involved shooting of the year.
It happened shortly after 9 p.m. Monday in Southeast Fresno, near the intersection of Chestnut and Kings Canyon.
Officers said they spotted a man wanted on drug-related warrants, so they moved in on him.
He was later identified as 37-year-old Anthony Romero, of Fresno.
Romero rode away on his bike, and officers said he tossed items along the way.
At one point, police said he reached into his waistband, and one of the officers feared he may have been armed, so the officer shot him.
Romero was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Police recovered a bag of meth in a nearby bush, but they are looking for more evidence.
