A parolee wanted on drug charges is back in custody and a woman has been reunited with her three children after a dramatic night that included a beating, a daring escape and a gun being fired.
Fresno police say the ordeal started sometime Monday night, when the woman and her children were taken against their will to an apartment off McKenzie and Glenn avenues.
There, officers say the man pistol whipped the woman, and threatened to shoot her.
Around 9 p.m., the woman escaped to a neighbor's home.
"She said 'please help, help!'", says Patty Flanagan, who lives next to the apartment where the woman was held. "She said her boyfriend had kidnapped her and held her and the kids captive for three days."
Flanagan says the woman handed over a child over a fence, then she and her sister helped the woman over, too.
They called police who then tried to negotiate with the man to release the two other children in the apartment, who are two years old and five months old.
A second woman was also in the home.
Police blocked off a perimeter bordering the streets of Belmont, Blackstone, McKenzie and San Pablo.
The man refused to cooperate with the officers' demands to step out of the home, so a SWAT team was called in.
That's when, police say, he fired another round in the home.
Then he stopped communicating with officers.
But, a breakthrough was made around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The second woman and the five-month-old baby escaped the apartment.
"We were advised [the suspect] was on the bed with the two-month-old in his arms," says Deputy Police Chief Pat Farmer.
The woman told officers the man had passed out because of his excessive drug use hours before.
Moments later, SWAT officers went in and arrested the man and rescued the child.
"There was a good outcome, that child is back with the mother," said Farmer.
Police have not released the man's name, but say he will be charged with several felonies including false imprisonment, domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
Farmer revealed that this was not the first time the man had opened fire against his accuser.
He shot at her earlier this month.
