New Program Helps Seniors In Madera County
MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) —
There's a new tool to help Madera County seniors who live alone.
On Wednesday, Sheriff John Anderson launched the first-of-its-kind electronic messaging service created specifically for elderly people living on their own.
Participants of the "Elder Orphans" program receive pre-recorded phone calls to their home twice a day.
The message asks them to press 1 if they are okay or 2 if there is an emergency.
When the number 2 button is pressed, they are connected to the Sheriff's Department.
The service is designed to help people with special needs who live alone, may be home-bound and don't have the services of an in-home attendant.
