Fresno State's Record Season Ends in Disappointing Fashion
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KMPH) —
Fresno State entered the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl feeling confident they could compete with, and beat, PAC-12 power USC. But after they answered a 1st quarter Trojan touchdown with one of their own to make it 7-6, it was all Southern Cal.
Derek Carr was harrassed and hit all afternoon, looking as uncomfortable in the pocket as he has all season. In his last game as a Bulldog, the quarterback did become just the 4th player in FBS history to hit 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdowns in a single season.
After getting down 28-6 midway through the 2nd quarter, the closest the 'Dogs would get was 38-20 early in the 4th, after Derron Smith returned a Cody Kessler interception for a touchdown. The final score was 45-20.
Fresno State finishes the season 11-2 and champions of the Mountain West Conference, falling just short of the program's first 12 win season. They have lost in five straight bowl appearances.
