ID Theft, Stolen Property Investigation: Man Arrested
Authorities have arrested a Clovis man suspected of being part of a major identity theft and stolen property ring.
Michael Cole Kitley, 40, was taken into custody in the Bay Area city of San Rafael last Tuesday.
Clovis Police said they found stolen property, bank cards and counterfeit money inside a hotel room along Shaw Avenue back in July.
Two people were arrested in connection with the case. Police said Kitley jumped out of the room's window and took off.
The Madera County Sheriff's Office said Kitley and a woman, identified as 25-year-old Danielle Robin Blevins, of Fresno, rented a room at a motel along Golden State Boulevard in late August.
The two reportedly fought. She checked out, and he took off.
According to detectives, a motel employee checked the room and discovered what appeared to be evidence of identity theft -- piles of checkbooks, debit and credit cards, Social Security cards and driver's licenses.
Deputies said they were called to the room and also found a cache of stolen merchandise, including electronics, clothing and jewelry.
Investigators believe the property was stolen out of cars in the Fresno area within the last five months. They suspect a lot of the items stolen from these vehicles were sold to unwitting customers on Craigslist.
Last Tuesday, San Rafael Police received a call from the Fresno Police Department stating that Kitley was possibly staying in a hotel in San Rafael.
Officers went to the hotel and spotted Kitley driving through the parking lot that night. They say he drove away into a neighborhood, then got out of the car and ran through several backyards.
Police say Kitley climbed onto the roof of a house, ran across and fell off. He was arrested and later booked into the Marin County Jail on multiple charges and outstanding warrants.
San Rafael Police Department investigators say they found stolen handguns, passports, ID cards, Social Security cards and other items in Kitley's car.
Anyone who is missing any of these items from a vehicle burglary in the Fresno area within the last five months (prior to August 28) is urged to call the Madera County Sheriff's Office at (559) 675-7770. Callers should ask for Detective Kristine Hawk or the sheriff's main evidence room.
