Hundreds of people became American citizens during a Naturalization Ceremony in Downtown Fresno on Tuesday. 685 people from 40 different countries took the final step in their journey's to become U.S. Citizens.
"It's unbelievable," says Rosalind Kingsley Hurse, who is a new U.S. Citizen, "We've been talking about this for 12 plus years, and I can't believe it's over, and everything's been accomplished."
Rosalind Kingsley Hurse and her mom, Praba Koomson, came to the U.S. from London. They were in search of not only a better life, but more educational opportunities.
"I'm a grad student and I'm trying to go for my P.H.D." adds Hurse, "Now that I'm a citizen, it's going to be possible for me. A lot of life plans are possible now that this oath has been taken."
Koomson is a nurse and says she wants to use her skills and knowledge to give back to the community.
"Every time you start a journey, it starts with a first step and it carries on, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel," says Praba Koomson, who is a new U.S. Citizen, "Today we came through the tunnel; it was the end of the journey for us, so it was really truly awesome."
