The sign up for Obamacare will begin in a few days on Tuesday, October 1st. People will be able to research different healthcare options, figure out how much they will have to pay and enroll in a plan.
If you are interested in insurance each state is setting up its own marketplace. In California it's through a website called "Covered California."
The website lets people see all the insurance options available to them. People who live in Fresno, Kings and Madera Counties will be able to use Anthem, Kaiser Permanente and Blue Shied. If you live in Tulare, Merced and Mariposa counties it's the same companies, but Health Net is also included.
The cost is going to depend on how much you make, how many people are in your household and what part of the state you live in. The average plan will cost between $219 and $335.
You can go to the "Covered California" website now and start to shop around. There will also be a call center in Fresno. If you need help you can call 1-800-300-1506.
If you decide not to have insurance you will be penalized. This is how much you will pay in penalties: In 2014 it will be 1% of your annual income or $95, whichever is greater. In 2015 the amount goes up to 2% or $325. In 2016 the penalty will be 2.5% or $695. You will pay the penalty when you pay your taxes.
