      Helicopter Crash In Merced Friday Morning

      The FAA is trying to find out why a pilot crashed his helicopter in Merced Friday morning.

      The crash happened before 8:00 a.m. at Thornton and Lopes near the Merced Regional Airport.

      The downed aircraft was found in a nearby watermelon field.

      Deputies say that a crop duster crashed and started a fire.

      Two people who were driving by pulled the pilot out of the aircraft and got him to safety.

      He was airlifted to the hospital.

      Cal/OSHA and the FAA are expected to be on the scene soon, to find out the reason for this crash.
