      Fresno State's Class of 2014 Totals 56-Hundred Students

      Family and friends packed the Save Mart Center Saturday to witness a milestone in education for more than 5600 graduates.{} Fresno State President Dr. Joseph Castro told the Class of 2014 that it's a great day to be a Bulldog. This is the first graduating class for Dr. Castro since taking the reins at Fresno State ten months ago.{}{}This year's President's medal winner was German Marquez Alcala.{} "It's truly humbling and truly honoring.{} I wasn't expecting it to be honest." Alcala is off to Purdue to pursue his doctorate in ag business.{}{}Kevin Tatum is one of more than 4-thousand graduates who earned a bachelor's degree.{} "It feels good because it's been a long process.{} I took longer than I thought.{} I originally wanted to be a teacher but switched over to nursing."{} Tatum now works in the burn unit at Community{}Regional Medical Center in Fresno.{} It was a proud moment for parents who waited more than 20 years to{}see their sons and daughters finish college.{}{}Fresno State also awarded a{}posthumous{}honorary doctorate degree to Pete Mehas, a Fresno State Alumnus and a lifelong educator.
