Fresno State Bulldogs Ready For Rutgers
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
Fresno State's second year head football coach says the Bulldogs are ready to take on Rutgers Thursday night at Bulldog Stadium. "Our guys know the task at hand, our guys know how important it is to get this thing started off right, and we'll just have to remind them of that. Most of the preparation's obviously done, it's a bunch of mental reps at this point, making sure we're on point with all of our adjustments, and just getting our guys mentally set for tomorrow," said Coach DeRuyter.
While Derek Carr is the quarterback of the offense, look for junior safety Derron Smith to serve as the quarterback of the defense. The returning starter was second on the team with 6 interceptions and 79 tackles in 2012, and is the preseason pick to be the Mountain West defensive layer of the year. "I kind of led by example last year, but this year I'm going to be more vocal, and that's what I've been in the summer vocal and leading by example, Me and L.J. Jones, we've done a good job of grabbing the young guys, and even guys that have been here a few years in the d-b unit, and just watching film over the summer. Watching film, getting feet work done out on the field when nobody else is out there. Or going to work with the offense, getting one-on-ones, just trying to, just trying to work on our craft as db's," said Smith.
Kickoff is set for 7:32 p.m. in Fresno.
