If you've had a heart attack, odds are you never want to go through that again. Well, a new study finds if you eat more fiber, you should be able to live much longer, AND heart attack free.
Recent studies found people who eat a high-fiber diet tend to have a lower risk of developing heart disease, but now experts also say fiber, especially from whole grains, can help AFTER a heart attack.
Researchers studied more than 4,000 people who had their first heart attack.
They found those who ate the most whole grain fiber were 25% less likely to die over the next decade.
Study authors say the findings do not prove that fiber alone prolongs heart attack survivors' lives.
