A motorcyclist and a pedestrian were killed Wednesday morning in the area of Highway 99 in Tulare, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officers say a 22-year-old man from Porterville was walking across the northbound lane of Highway 99 near the Prosperity Avenue exit around 4:22 a.m. when he was struck by a 57-year-old man on a motorcycle.
The pedestrian failed to obey the "no pedestrians on the freeway sign" and walked into the path of the motorcyclist, CHP said.
Both the pedestrian and the motorcyclist were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident forced safety officials to shut down the northbound lanes of Highway 99 for nearly three hours.
