Have you seen a notice on Facebook that says if you post a special status it will give you extra privacy protection?
Well, it's a hoax.
The posts say anyone who displays the warnings will get extra copyright and privacy protection.
Despite repeated warnings that the postings were bogus, they kept spreading.
Facebook reps say users who post content are the ones who own the content and control how it is shared.
The social network has had a history of controversies over privacy, and that may have fueled the hoax.
