A Bakersfield man was placed under arrest for allegedly driving drunk in a rollover crash in Hanford that killed a passenger, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday.
Officers say the driver, 41-year-old Reynaldo Garcia, of Bakersfield, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet just north of Nevada Avenue at 60 miles per hour when he made an unsafe right turn and drove the car off the edge of the road. Garcia then overcorrected after re-entering the roadway and rolled the car several times, the CHP said.
A 69-year-old passenger inside of the car was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say the passenger was not wearing a seat belt.
Garcia and two other passengers in the car suffered moderate to major injuries. They were transported by air ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center.
Garcia was arrested while at the hospital for felony drinking while driving and will booked into the Kings County Jail after he receives treatment for his injuries, officers said.
