Bulldog Women's Best Years Marked by Australian Accent
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
The Fresno State women's basketball team has enjoyed a dominant decade, and they've done it with 10 Australians on the roster. Of the six that have come and gone, three are all over the program record books, including all sitting in the top 11 in career points scored. Now there's four on the roster - one in each class - the most from Australia on any Division 1 roster this season.
The first three names you'll hear at a Bulldogs game are all Aussies - senior Bree Farley, junior Alex Sheedy and sophomore Jacinta Vandenburg. In the team's 4-0 start to Mountain West play, the trio is combining for more than 50% of both the team's scoring and rebounding.
Freshman Courtney Gaze is the fourth Australia native on the roster, and she comes from a legendary hoops family. Her father, Andrew, and grandfather, Lindsay, are the only two Australians in the FIBA Hall of Fame.
