At Sierra Pacific Orthopedic & Spine Center, we are committed to not only treatment but also prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.
One of the most common disorders contributing to the debilitation of the world's population is Osteoporosis. A silent, progressive disease, osteoporosis affects up to 28 million people and causes increased bone fragility with resultant fractures.
Affecting mostly women, osteoporosis is a disease that can be prevented or even reversed. Early detection is the key to treatment of osteoporosis and prevention of osteoporotic fractures.
At Sierra Pacific Orthopedic & Spine Center, we employ a state-of-the-art Lunar Prodigy DEXA bone densitometry unit to assess the risk factor for fractures of the spine and hip. In contrast to systems that use measure the bone density at the wrist or forearm, the Prodigy determines the done density at the two most common sites of debilitating fractures related to osteoporosis.
As our population increases, diagnosis of osteoporosis and prevention of osteoporotic fractures is of paramount importance in order to allow people to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
